Itsy bitsy Spider

A little something different. People always ask me what my fave character to draw is and truth is, there are too many to name. Definitely not a clear cut favorite. But as far as one of the least favorite characters to draw...well that would have to be the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

Now I love the character and love how John Romita and JRJR and Michael Golden and Todd McFarlane interpreted him and the 2 movies are simply brilliant...it's just as a character to draw...well, I just can't get past the webbing. Can't figure it out and to me, it always feels like I'm drawing treads on a tire or windows on a 100 story skyscraper. To do that every panel, 22 pages an issue. Yowsa! This one was for Ale's son who just had a birthday and the Webcrawler is one of his favorite characters. So exceptions were made...damn webbing!

Not usual to see you draw Spiderman.
I remember seeing a couple of your spiderman sketches & they were AWESOME(especially, the Spiderman-Black Cat).
Seems that someones just have kind of midastouch, making every panel just wonderful to watch at.

Happy birthbay,lil'boy! Nice gift.

This a pure killer ! I like the idea of Spider-man being a little muscle-up ! I remember the cover of the Punisher with Spider-man in it wich is one of my favorite !
This piece is pa pure Killer ! ( did I say that twice ? )

i remember you doing 2 pages in mcfarlane's spiderman in your marvel days. he's tough but everybody loves the S-man

i hope you get the chance to do him later on in your career. you seem to like to take on Icon characters, so we can hope!

If someone would read this I want to write the picture is GREAT! AMAZING! I think his eyes looks a little like Mark Bugley's version at old books. Todd McFarlane was the greatest Spider-Man's artist. He invented many very good patents. I'm very interesting how looks YOUR Spider's symbol. Right here it looks budding, yesyesyo. If you will draw some more Spiders please let us know how they looklike.

I've never liked drawing SM either, and my name is Lucas. I think that means I should get a drawing too :)

Great pic Jim. Even your least favorite to draw characters come out looking top notch. I think it's interesting to see you draw someone with SM's physique since we don't get to see that very often anymore with the DC characters you're drawing being mainly big and wide body types. I would love to see more slender heroes from you, like Daredevil or some full body Gambit pics, hehe.

Beautiful, awesome drawing, Jim!!! Love the light coming from below, the shadow on the wall, the detail in the background and of course the really cool Spidey himself! This drawing's freakin' PERFECT!!!

As far as not liking to draw him though, I can't say I agree with you; I think after Wolverline & Batman, Spidey's probably the character I've drawn the most in my life (as an aspiring comic artist I draw a lot) and after drawing him probably hundreds of times in the last 15 years or so to me he's really a piece of cake.

But yeah, I've heard this before, and not just from you (in fact they usually get his webbing wrong in his own books too, HATE THAT), but of course, you got the webbing just right in this masterpiece.

I've personally always thought the webbing's actually a pretty simple design to do but I'm sure drawing it for an entire comic, panel after panel, would get totally tedious.

Anyway, the drawing is AWESOME AS USUAL and you are forever the MASTER, JIM!!!!!!!!

Take care, y'all

Haha I remember as a kid my favorite character to draw would be Spider-man, and I'd draw everything and save the webbing for last. Then I would just get frustrated, especially around his head. Well, you can always draw the symbiote costume next time :P

Eh, I've never understood the ravings of McFarlane's spidey... probably never will... but DUDE! That sketch rocks... too bad you hate drawing him, I'd actually pick up the book if you did...

That's an awesome Spiderman. I feel like it's a better improvement from your Punisher art from back when. Totally awesome.

I knew you don't like to draw him, because I have always wondered why haven't you done any spidey book yet. but you made Spidey look so great!
